I think a lot about the health of U.S. manufacturing and the value of its corporate leadership. Manufacturing now accounts for only 11% of GDP and I do not hear a lot from engineers about the cutting edge project they are assigned to work on. I hear a lot of examples of cash rich corporations cutting R&D projects and laying off engineers. I see little vision or leadership for improved products. Is it possible that we have too many short-term focused, over-entitled CEOs that seem to worry more about their income than their employees, their stockholders or their corporate citizenship? What do you see? Am I not looking at the right places?
